Omg! It’s like we are the same person! 🤣 I did an MA in Lit and was so snobby about my reading and now I devour rom coms…after years of not reading as much because of said lit degree scars. I’m all about the audiobooks these days, though. 🫶🏻
Ha you’re kidding! I feel you on those scars though, I remember literally throwing a book across the room the summer I graduated… like no more! I still struggle with audiobooks though, probs cause social media has given me the concentration span of a goldfish..🤦♀️
Ooh thanks. I'd never heard of Emily Henry - is there one of hers you like best?
Caledonian Road is one I've been meaning to pick up. I love a sprawling sort of novel, and I spent a lot of time there in my twenties. I'm not sure I'll handle two 'epics' on a trip, but I may give it a go!
I love this! I often equate summer reading with romances, so a few recent favorites have been Funny Story by Emily Henry, Business Casual by BK Borison, and The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce! Besides romances, The Women by Kristin Hannah was FANTASTIC and I'm currently reading The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne - written incredibly well.
Oh funny, @Fiona in another comment also recommended Emily Henry. I'll take this as a sign to start with 'Funny Story' then! Thanks for the other recs too, The Women looks like a really interesting story, never thought about women's role in the Vietnam War.
Love this Emma. Nothing quite like being stuck in a page turner….
Probably recency bias but have you read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara? Tough read in parts yet beautiful too. Also The Weather Woman by Sally Gardner- on first glance the story feels preposterous but it is a beautiful read. Or Still Life by Sarah Woman. A multi year hoping story of art, friendship and love.
Thank you for the recommendations, Ruth. I've been meaning to read A Little Life for yonks but having heard how tragic it is something stops me! Having a quick Google of the others I'm instantly intrigued by The Weather Woman, and Still Life looks like it would be a great summer read with the Italian setting. I'll let you know if I manage either!

The secret for me is speeding them up and accomplishing other tasks like dishes when listening. 🤪
I’ll give it another go! 🐠
I’m on a real Emily Henry kick right now, love stories with a bit of bite (not literally, no vampires for me).
Caledonian Road was brilliant imo.
